League of Women Voters to Honor ‘Hall of Famers’
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The League of Women Voters Greater Youngstown will recognize its three 2018 Hall of Fame honorees March 20 at a dinner.
This year’s honorees are Elder Rosetta Carter, Lola Simmons, and Judith A. Stanger.
Carter is the executive director and lead organizer of ACTION, or the Alliance for Congregational Transformation Influencing Our Neighborhoods, a faith-based grassroots community organization that works for social justice. Ordained in 2006, she is the associate minister of the Elizabeth Baptist Church and is involved with Christian Education Ministry, Elders Council and Dress to Succeed Inc.
Simmons is the executive director of Home for Good, a re-entry resource referral center, which she has been involved with since it opened in November 2013. She previously served as a program coordinator at the Greater Youngstown Point. She is a graduate of Kent State University, worked for Copperweld Steel Co. in Warren for 27 years in quality assurance, and is a board member for Dress for Success.
Stanger is a retired professor from Youngstown State University, where she taught French. She has been involved with a number of community groups including Nami (a support group for families with disabled children), UNA-USA, Cirque de la Francis, Plant the Seed to Read, YWCA and Genealogy Club, and was in charge and a founding member of the International Student Group at YSU.
The dinner event begins at 5 p.m. at the YWCA, 25 W. Rayen Ave. Tickets are $20. For reservations, call 888 781 1176.
