Lee Michael Industries Sees Growth on Horizon

NEW CASTLE, Pa. — With four pre-engineered structures in development and two others in the final bid stage, Lee Michael Industries Inc. has a strong foundation going into 2020, says Jim Salvatore, operations manager.

Lee Michael Industries, established in 2005, specializes in heavy industrial work that includes concrete placement, structural steel fabrication, facility maintenance services and turnkey pre-engineered metal building projects.

“Last year was a great year for the company with the completion of Ellwood Quality Steels’ 115,000- square-foot melt shop in New Castle, Pa,” says Salvatore.

Because of the influx of major projects during 2018 and 2019, LMI added a 9,500-square-foot warehouse and another 4,000 square feet to its manufacturing and fabrication plant, Salvatore says.

This includes the addition of two 10-ton cranes to handle the company’s fabrication projects.

Lee Michael Industries owns and maintains 36 pieces of mechanized construction equipment in support of all its project work within the tri-state area. The additional fabrication business during 2019 allowed Lee Michael Industries to hire four employees.

“If we continue to see an increase in orders for 2020, we anticipate the addition of more shop personnel,” Salvatore says.

The company employs on average between 35 and 40 full-time ironworkers, carpenters, laborers, welders and fabricators, Salvatore says.

During the summer, the workforce expands to between 100 and 120 personnel because of high demand for mill maintenance work.

Meanwhile, the company continues to receive upbeat reports from its industrial clients relative to projects slated for this year.

“It seems that some items that have been mothballed for a while are getting a second look,” Salvatore says.
