Lil Paws Winery
LAKE MILTON, Ohio — Dale Mills has a soft spot for his furry friends. And after making wine for years, he, his wife and a couple of their friends banded together to create the best retirement plan they could think of – a dog-themed winery.
Each wine is named after a dog that Mills and his wife, or their friends, have owned in the past. Many of the wines are fruity and on the sweeter side, with some interesting specialties such as an apple pie wine in the fall and a lime and coconut-flavored “piña colada in a bottle,” called Peep, during the summer months.
To benefit area dog charities, Mills takes part in animal rescue fundraisers multiple times a year, including live local entertainment Fridays during the summer and Saturdays year-round.
“There’s no real competition when it comes to wineries. Each of us have different wines and it gives people a chance to go to the place that they really like best,” said Mills. “If you haven’t been to the wineries, it’s a relaxing time to go see what they’re like, see what they have to offer, and drive around and meet new people. Our motto is, ‘Come as a guest, leave as a friend.’ “
