Macy’s Begins Hiring for Fulfillment Center Jobs

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Patrick Nicholl of Warren says he enjoys his current job, but it simply doesn’t pay enough to make ends meet.

That’s why he and two friends were among a handful of job seekers standing in line Tuesday morning awaiting their turn to apply for one of more than 450 new fulfillment positions opening up at the Macy’s Logistics and Operations Center in North Jackson.

“I think this is great for the entire area,” he says. “I used to live out in this area and it’s great to see growth out here and its transformation.”

Macy’s is in the process of converting its North Jackson distribution center into a fulfillment center for its online business. The company intends to invest nearly $30 million into the facility at 12629 Mahoning Ave. and renovate 400,000 square-feet of its 600,000 square-foot complex to accommodate fulfillment business.

The company said earlier this year that the renovations should be finished by September.

By 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, about 70 were either waiting to start their applications or were in the process of applying for the available jobs. The doors opened at 10 a.m.

It’s the first of Macy’s hiring events, which are scheduled between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. every Tuesday until the positions are filled.

Multiple shifts and flexible schedules are available for warehouse workers, including forklift drivers and other positions, according to a press release issued by the company.

Macy’s says it offers competitive pay, bilingual work environment, merchandise discounts, access to flexible scheduling and the opportunity to earn additional bonuses.

Employees at Macy’s Mahoning Avenue Fulfillment Center may also be eligible to earn a $500 referral bonus, earning an incentive for recruiting friends and family to join Macy’s fulfillment team. The hiring process for jobs at the fulfillment center includes:

  • Advance interview scheduling online through Indeed
  • Walk-in applicants welcome for on the spot interviews
  • Offers often extended to applicants the same day they apply or interview
  • Convenient online access to discover opportunities 24/7 nationwide at MacysJobs.com

Nicholl says he’s heard the starting wage is about $17 per hour, which is more than he currently makes.  A Macy’s spokesperson confirmed that employees could earn up to $19.50 per hour.

“We all have families,” Nicholl says. “We’re changing our lives over and this looks like a great opportunity.”
