Mahoning Ag Hall of Fame Announces Inaugural Class
CANFIELD – The Mahoning County Agriculture Hall of Fame has announced its inaugural class of inductees.
The inductees will be honored Aug. 31, opening day of the Canfield Fair, in a ceremony on the concourse stage, which is near the grandstand. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend the ceremony.
The first members of the hall are A. Bacon, Chester Bedell, Vernon E. Crouse, Elden R. Groves, J. Paul Good, William B. Phillips, David and Joanna Witmer, and Paul D. Witmer.
A new group of inductees will be announced every year and honored at the fair. Recipients will include individuals as well as husband-wife teams and partnerships between farmers or agricultural businessman or contributors.
Agriculture has always been a cornerstone of Mahoning County’s economy and culture, and the new hall – which was announced earlier this summer – recognizes those who made a significant impact.
The Mahoning County Agricultural Society is the governing body of the Canfield Fair and Fairgrounds, as well as the hall of fame.
