Mahoning Valley Food Bank Receives Donation from Meijer
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley received a surprise donation from Meijer on Thursday.
Second Harvest is among eight food banks in the state and 30 in the Midwest that are recipients of a $2 million donation from the retailer to help battle hunger in local communities.
“We are thankful for this generous donation from Meijer, which will provide 350,000 meals to our hungry friends and neighbors in the Mahoning Valley,” said Michael Iberis, executive director of Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley.
The other food banks in the state that will receive funds are Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank; Freestore Foodbank in Cincinnati; Greater Cleveland Foodbank; Mid-Ohio Food Collective; Second Harvest Food Bank of North Central Ohio; Second Harvest Food Bank of Clark, Champaign & Logan Counties; and The Foodbank in Dayton.
“We recognize the vital role food banks play in addressing hunger and are proud to stand alongside our partners to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those facing food insecurity,” said Rick Keyes, president and CEO of Meijer. “We know there is an elevated need in many of our communities, and we want to do our part to help feed our hungry neighbors.”
