Mercer County Food Bank to Host Stuff the Truck Event
HERMITAGE, Pa. – Mercer County Food Bank is inviting the community to help Stuff the Truck to assist those in need in Mercer County.
The food bank’s truck will be parked at D’Onofrio’s Food Center, 1749 N. Hermitage Road, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
The food bank will accept all nonperishable food items (no glass packaging) during the event. The most needed food items include canned proteins, vegetables, fruits, peanut butter, cereal and pasta.
“Stuff the Truck donations are all kept local to feed our neighbors in need throughout Mercer County,” said Rebecca Page, Mercer County Food Bank executive director. “Feeding America released its Map the Meal Gap hunger study, revealing an increased need throughout our one-county service area.”
In Mercer County 15,410 people (13.9% of the population) and 4,390 children (20.9% of the population) are considered food insecure, meaning they don’t always know where their next meal will come from, a news release states.
