Meritage of Miracles Supports Access To Pediatric Palliative Care

LOWELLVILLE, Ohio – In support of services at Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley, Meritage of Miracles will host its annual event on Sept. 7.

Meritage of Miracles is a nonprofit organization that focuses on increasing access to pediatric palliative care for children in the Mahoning Valley. The sixth annual event, hosted by Dr. Farid Naffah, gastroenterologist, will bring together restaurants, businesses and residents.

“We are honored that we could help provide more families with access to the critical pediatric palliative they and their children need,” said Michelle Sergi, the founder of Meritage of Miracles. “The support we’ve received throughout the community has been tremendous.”

The event will take place at Naffah’s estate, Cadobaz, in Cortland. It will include dinner by Medure’s Catering, wine by L’uva Bella Winery and Bistro, craft beer by Birdfish Brewing Co., chance, silent and live auctions and live entertainment by Steve Fazzini and Rick Schilling.

In addition, a full concert by BackTraxx, a high energy dance band that plays rock and soul music, will feature music from the Beatles, the Temptations, Aretha Franklin and Van Morrison.

Pediatric palliative care takes a comprehensive and family-centered approach to medical care by providing an array of services including care coordination, pain and symptom management, psychosocial support, financial support, home care, bereavement services and end of life care. Children with seizure disorders and rare genetic conditions to cancer diagnoses can be enrolled in this program.

Founded in 2014 by Michelle Sergi, Meritage of Miracles has raised more than $180,000 for the palliative care program with 100% of the proceeds going directly to local children and families. Sergi raised $13,500 the first year and $28,300 in 2015. The monies raised from the event benefit Akron Children’s Hospital and pediatric palliative care for children with chronic, complex and life-threatening illnesses.

The organization is currently accepting donations and sponsorships for this year’s event. Tickets are on sale for the event and can be purchased at
