ModWash Buys Austintown Site for $875,000

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – Car wash chain ModWash has closed on the sale of its third Mahoning Valley site, buying the former Skate Zone Fun Center for $875,000.

The skating rink, laser tag arena and arcade at 5420 Mahoning Avenue, which also houses a mini-golf course at the front of the property, closed in March.

ModWash, owned by Tennessee real estate firm Hutton, has already purchased two other sites in the area: $975,000 for Mayo Professional Center in Boardman and $500,000 for the former West Fork Roadhouse in Liberty Township.

According to the ModWash website, the company plans to open sites in Salem, Warren, Kent and Medina this year, followed by sites in Akron, Ashland, Ashtabula, Madison and Sheffield in 2022.

The brand was launched by Hutton last year and plans to operate 100 sites by the end of 2023, according to the Chattanooga Times Free Press, which would make it one of the largest companies in the field.

In that story, CEO Karen Hutton said each site takes between $3.5 million and $4 million to develop, with permitting and construction typically taking about 14 months.
