MS Consultants Transforms Communities

By Jeanne Mosure, VP of public affairs, regional director, MS Consultants
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — As we begin 2020, MS Consultants is growing and changing to support our clients’ needs. As engineers, architects and planners, we adapt so we can support the vision and growth of the communities around us. This was shown in 2019 as the firm increased its urban planning services group by adding employees, bringing the staff to 300, and added services.

Communities in the Mahoning Valley are experiencing great change and MS Consultants is adapting to help clients solve the complex issues resulting from that change. This includes comprehensive planning, infrastructure upgrades, rehabilitations and retrofitting, asset management systems and more.

Our continued involvement in the evolution of the Mahoning Valley is evident in our work on the Canfield comprehensive plan to help prepare that community for the future; as the spine of the Smart2 network, sponsored by the Eastgate Regional Council of Governments, for the design of the reconstruction of Fifth Avenue in Youngstown; and the Youngstown Foundation Amphitheatre and Wean Foundation Riverfront Park, which are helping turn downtown Youngstown into a destination, alongside other projects such as the Covelli Centre.

Another transformation recognized in 2019 was the renovation of the Stambaugh Building in Youngstown into the Doubletree by Hilton. The Mahoning Valley Historical Society honored this transformation with its Commercial Revitalization Award.

In addition, the Mahoning County Courthouse restoration project received a Preservation Merit Award from the Ohio State Historic Preservation Office. MS teamed with the Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber, Murphy & Burge, Barber & Hoffman and Incorporated Roofing Consultants on the courthouse restoration. Honors like these showcase how the hard work of the MS staff makes a difference in the community, transforming historic relics of the area to sustain for years in the future.

Taking community support a step further, MS Consultants and its employees give back to their communities on and off the clock. This includes participation in miniature- bridge building competitions, the Youngstown Community Cup and serving as United Way volunteers and mentors, including the Success After 6 program. In addition, our employees in northeastern Ohio banded together for the annual Christmas Adopt-A-Child program. Thanks to our employees, we provided gifts for children in Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties.

As a local, family company founded by Thomas F. Mosure and led today by Thomas E. Mosure, MS Consultants recruits talent from the region, including a special focus on Youngstown State University graduates. We regularly attend YSU’s STEM Expo to recruit the region’s top engineering talent.
