National Service Open House Set for Nov. 9
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Family & Community Services, Inc. is hosting a National Service Open House to showcase its AmeriCorps Vista and Senior Corps programs on Nov. 9 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 201 Wick Ave.
The open house invites nonprofits, schools, and health institutions from the Mahoning Valley to learn more about how national service can help move their missions forward, build their capacity, and improve lives in the Mahoning Valley.
“Vista members are planning health services for Youngstown students and improving outdoor recreation and education,” said Pat Lowry, director of strategic initiatives for the Youngstown City School District. “Foster grandparents provide needed support to elementary students, and RSVP volunteers have provided a spectrum of services. Anyone seeking volunteers should seriously consider AmeriCorps Vista and SeniorCorps.”
From 11 a.m. to noon, presentations about each national service program: Foster Grandparents Program (FGP), Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) and AmeriCorps Vista. Speakers include Lowry, who will highlight the impact national service has had in Youngstown City Schools. Representatives from Senator Sherrod Brown’s and Congressman Bill Johnson’s offices will speak on the value of national service. Letters of support will be provided by Sherrod Brown, Bill Johnson, Rob Portman and Tim Ryan.
From noon to 1 p.m., attendees are invited to stay for a meet and greet with the National Service Program Coordinators.
