Nominations Sought for Gems of the Valley Awards

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Fund for Women & Girls’ Gems of the Valley is returning, and the community can now submit nominations for awards.

Gems of the Valley, an evening of connection and celebration for women doing work in the Valley that is often overlooked, is one of the major events for The Fund for Women & Girls, a community-led fund at the Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley.

An online nomination form is available HERE. After submissions close Sept. 15, The Fund for Women & Girls Guiding Circle will select the awardees.

Those selected will be recognized at the Gems of the Valley event Oct. 12 at Drake’s Landing in Canfield, Ohio. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m., and the program will begin at 6 p.m. Tickets for the free event are available HERE.

“After the success of our Microfunding Event earlier this summer, we knew it was important to bring back Gems of the Valley,” said Jana Coffin, co-president of Project MKC and a member of the Guiding Circle. “This event is our way of putting the spotlight on the work of incredible women to make the Mahoning Valley a better place.”

Sharon Stringer, a psychological sciences and counseling professor at Youngstown State University and a Guiding Circle member, added: “With so many great things happening across the region, we wanted to put the spotlight on the women whose work is often unsung. Gems of the Valley is an opportunity to do just that and offer all attending the chance to make connections that support those efforts.”
