Nonprofit That Aims to Empower Women in the Trades to Host Fundraiser
Sharon, Pa. – Nine Point Nine, a new nonprofit that focuses on empowering women in the trades, will host its inaugural fundraiser from 6 to 8:30 p.m. June 27 at HopeCat, 115 Anson Way.
The Steel Toe Gala is an evening cocktail party where attendees are encouraged to wear their finest, with a twist – evening gowns and black ties with work boots rather than dress shoes.
The event will also include construction-themed photo ops, selfie stations, live music by Doug McIltrot, a silent auction and a “flash mob build ’n sip” where attendees will be able to help in the assembly of planters and benches that will be auctioned off.
Nine Point Nine’s mission is to provide a clear path for women who want to master the skills required for entry-level jobs in the construction industry through free pre-apprenticeship programs that help prepare participants for a career in the skilled trades.
“Our goal is to help participants in the program overcome their barriers and gain the skills necessary to pursue the skilled trades and gain a family-sustaining career,” said Janet Earle, chair of Nine Point Nine. “Women only comprise 9.9 percent of the workers in the construction industry, and we aim to increase that number through our program. This fundraiser will support that initiative.”
Tickets for the event are $75, and sponsorships are available. Click HERE.
