Ochman Receives the 2022 Athena Award

CANFIELD, Ohio — Dawn Ochman, President and CEO of Dawn Inc., was named the recipient of the 2022 Athena Award during a ceremony at Waypoint 4180 Thursday night.

A crowd of 610 gathered for the event hosted by the Youngstown Warren Regional Chamber and the Vindicator. The Athena Award is given each year to business and professional women in recognition of their leadership in the community and their mentorship to other professional women.

Ochman started her business in 1993 as a dump truck hauler with one truck, eventually growing to a fleet of 30 trucks within 10 years. She later expanded the business into construction and now does business in six states. Dawn Inc. has 31 employees.

Giving the keynote address at the ceremony was Dr. Curren Katz, senior director for data science & digital health for Janssen Research & Development at Johnson & Johnson and a native of Hubbard.

The 15th Athena Scholarship, a $1,500 award created in partnership with the Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley, was presented to Annabelle Himes, a business and human resource management major at Youngstown State University.

Two additional $1,250 scholarships from Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield were presented to Campbell Memorial High School senior Jazzlyn Flores and Beaver Local High School senior Leah Riccardo.
