ODOT Seeks Public Input on $4.4M Resurfacing Project

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Department of Transportation plans to resurface nearly 14 miles of state Routes 14 and 165 in the city of Salem, the village of Beloit and the townships of Smith, Goshen and Green.

The $4.4 million project also calls for maintenance on six bridges and culverts along Routes 14 and 165 and the replacement of a bridge between Calla Road and Smith Goshen Road.

The proposed project is in the preliminary engineering phase, and right-of-way acquisition is ongoing for the bridge replacement.

During construction, a minimum of one lane of traffic will be maintained on Route 165. On Route 14, a minimum of one lane of traffic will be maintained, except when it’s necessary to close the road at the bridge site for a maximum of 21 consecutive days. The detour route will use U.S. Route 224 and state Route 534.

The project will result in minor stream and wetland impacts and the removal of trees that may provide suitable wooded habitat for various bat species protected by the Endangered Species Act.

As part of the environmental process for the project, ODOT is seeking public comments.  Project-related issues the public may wish to comment on include, but are not limited to, the effect of the project on residents, businesses, the local economy and historic or cultural resources.

Comments and questions can be emailed to Sean Carpenter, environmental specialist for ODOT, at [email protected], or call 330 786 2274. Comments received by Nov. 11 will be considered during project development.
