Ohio Weekly Unemployment Claims Continue to Drop
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohioans filed 5,196 initial traditional unemployment claims last week, which was 607 fewer than the previous week, the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services reported Thursday.
It was the fifth straight week that filings have declined.
State residents also filed 42,591 continued traditional unemployment claims the week of April 23-29, which was 2,685 fewer than the previous week.
Of the initial unemployment claims filed, 1,295 have been flagged for more stringent identity verification to ensure they are not fraudulent.
In March, Ohio’s unemployment rate was 3.8%. The national unemployment rate was 3.5%. Ohio’s labor force participation rate in March was 61.5%. The national labor force participation rate was 62.6%.
