Penguin City Introduces Winter Warmer Ale
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — Later this week, customers of Penguin City Beer can enjoy the company’s official holiday seasonal: Winter Warmer Ale.
Distribution starts later this week and the ale should be available for purchase at retail locations by Nov. 20, according to a company release. Locations will be announced on Penguin City Brewing Co. social media pages.
Michael Pontikos, brand manager for Penguin City, designed the label with red and black buffalo check plaid, giving the can a “perfect, cozy holiday look,” the company states. At 7.5% ABV, the traditional winter warmer ale features a mahogany color.
Because of a nationwide shortage of aluminum cans, “we had to scramble and take what we could get,” says Richard Bernacki, co-owner of Penguin City. Half of the winter warmer ale batch will be sold in 12 oz. six-packs, while the other half will be in 16 oz. four-packs.
The company is still operating with a skeleton crew and sales are not at 100%, says Aspasia Lyras-Bernacki, co-owner. Until there is a vaccine for COVID-19, “I really don’t see sales going to where they were pre-pandemic,” she says.
“You don’t know what each week is going to bring. We are possibly on the verge of another shut down, and most of the bars halted ordering. It’s extremely difficult and stressful,” Lyras-Bernacki says.
“We want to thank everyone that has supported us through this tough time,” the co-owners add. “Your kind messages, shares, and buying local is helping us stay alive, and we are grateful for all you.”
