Pine Lake Earns Praise for Vineyards White

BEAVER TOWNSHIP, Ohio — In November, the Ohio Quality Wine program recognized the Vineyards at Pine Lake for its first ever estate-grown wine, Vineyards White.

Vineyards White was released during the first annual Harvest Festival at the winery this past October. The variety was produced entirely from grapes grown on-site and harveted in 2017. A medium-bodied wine with notes of apricot, citrus and honey, the off-dry blend uses four grape varieties: Cayuga White, Melody, Vignoles and Valvin Muscat.

“It’s really humbling and rewarding to see our hard work pay off,” said Joseph Glista III, head winemaker and vice president of Vineyards at Pine Lake. “It’s an honor to have one of our wines listed among such a revered selection of Ohio-grown wines.”

In 2007, the Ohio Grape Industries Committee and the Viticulture and Enology Program at the Ohio Agriculture Research and Development Center launched the Ohio Quality Wine program, or OQW, to recognize premier-quality Ohio wines, according to the OQW website. Eligible wines must be at least 90% produced with Ohio-grown grapes and pass a sensory and chemical analysis.

Customers can taste and purchase Vineyards White in the tasting room at Vineyards at Pine Lake and during the winery’s events. Samples will be available at the Winter Wine Affair at Stambaugh Auditorium on Jan. 26.

Upcoming events include a bridal show on Feb. 2 from 1 to 6 p.m., with a fashion show at 3 p.m. Admission is $25 and includes a glass of wine, signature tote and appetizers. Sip ‘n Paint with Wonderstruck on Feb. 7 from 6 to 8 p.m. is $25, and a Learn, Sip & Shop event on Feb. 22 from 5 to 9 p.m. is $5.
