Poetry Readings to Focus on Trumbull Revitalization

WARREN, Ohio — The Fine Arts Council of Trumbull County, the Trumbull County Brownfield Coalition and Rust Belt Poets and Writers will hold an evening of poetry readings from from 7 to 9 p.m. today in the Trumbull Art Gallery.

Theme of the evening is revitalizing nine brownfield sites in Trumbull County.

Julia Shuttic is scheduled to create a sculpture that expresses the words of the evening. Those who want to be part of the art form are invited to donate brightly colored T-shirts or small trinkets that have sentimental value. Items will be woven through the piece as the poets read their work. There also is a drop box for items at 155 E. Market St.

The Trumbull County Brownfield Coalition is a partnership involving the Western Reserve Port Authority, Trumbull County Planning Commission, city of Warren and Howland Township.

The coalition received a $600,000 Brownfield Assessment Grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to create a countywide inventory of more than 70 brownfield sites, pursue an Urban Setting Designation within with the city of Warren, and assess nine brownfield sites in Trumbull County. These assessments are the first step in redeveloping these properties.
