Poland Historical Society Plans Projects for Little Red Schoolhouse
POLAND – The Poland Historical Society this year plans to replace the furnace at its Little Red Schoolhouse on Center Road and install on-demand hot water, says Laurie Fox, president. Other plans include updating the landscaping and replacing the aging brick sidewalk.
In 2019, old shrubs and flowers were replaced, exterior areas of the building were painted, the bell tower was repaired and parking was added, Fox says.
The society was formed in 1979 by citizens who wanted to save the old school. A lease with the Poland Board of Education enabled the society to renovate and maintain the building, which houses artifacts about Poland’s history.
Membership reached an all-time high in 2019 with 125 members, Fox says.
