Professional Women’s Club Hosts Equal Pay Event Tuesday
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Youngstown Business & Professional Women’s Club will discuss the pay gap between men and women at its monthly meeting.
The meeting, a hybrid event with limited in-person attendance and a simulcast on Zoom, will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, the day before Equal Pay Day.
In addition to the normal meeting agenda, the club will feature talking points on the current state of equal pay topics and discuss paths for supporting continued progress. Youngstown Business & Professional Women also plans to match member donations to support the local equal pay promotion efforts of the League of Women Voters of Greater Youngstown.
On average, women earn 82 cents for every dollar earned by men. The date of Equal Pay Day – March 24 – was chosen because it represents the date it takes for women on average to earn what their male counterparts earned the previous calendar year.
“We were hoping to resume our normal collaboration with other aligned organizations like YWCA or AAUW to host a social awareness event on Equal Pay Day this year, but the committee felt it would be wiser to wait until we are further along in the COVID-19 vaccination phases,” said Dee McFarland, Youngstown Business & Professional Women treasurer and Equal Pay Day committee chairwoman, in a statement. “However, we feel it is still an absolute necessity to promote Equal Pay awareness in any way we can.”
To attend the event, RSVP to [email protected]. Specific details for the event will be included in the response to registration.
