Radiologists’ Donations Support New SRMC Medical Facility
SALEM, Ohio – Contributions from three Salem Regional Medical Center doctors to the SRMC Foundation will help support the new SRMC Surgery & Outpatient Pavilion at Firestone Farms TownCenter in Columbiana.
Through their gift, radiologists Dr. Salvatore Apicella, Dr. Peter Apicella and the late Dr. Frank Apicella secured the naming rights to the medical imaging staff lounge, which is located in the Advanced Radiology Center on the medical facility’s ground floor.
The Apicellas have been instrumental in expanding medical imaging services at SRMC over the past six decades, from X-rays and fluoroscopy to 3D mammography; high-resolution ultrasound; nuclear medicine; 3D CT; 3T MRI; high-definition PET/CT; advanced biopsy and intervention procedures; and the latest in radiation therapy.
A member of SRMC’s medical staff for 30 years, Peter Apicella is continuing the legacy of his father, the late Frank Apicella, and uncle Salvatore Apicella, to provide quality diagnostic imaging to area patients. He serves as SRMC’s chief radiologist, as well as the medical director of ARC Medical Imaging in Columbiana and Canfield.
“We’re proud to dedicate the lounge to the medical imaging staff of the new SRMC Surgery & Outpatient Pavilion and support this new facility, which brings state-of-the-art care to the community,” he said.
His wife, Sherri, also donated a variety of framed personal photos that are displayed throughout ARC Medical Imaging at the facility. She took the photos to capture the beauty and unique landscapes of places they’ve visited.
“Peter and I share a passion for travel and photography,” she said. “I’m happy to provide these photos to help uplift and bring comfort to patients and their families as they await care at the new imaging center.”
“The Apicellas’ contributions have had a lasting impact on patient care at Salem Regional Medical Center,” said Amy Reed, director of the SRMC Foundation. “We’re greatly appreciative for their continued support, which has helped ensure that local residents have access to the latest advances in medical imaging technology.”
