Registration Opens for YSU Junior Engineers Summer Camp

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — Future engineers can get a jumpstart on robotics, 3D printing and more this summer.

Registration for the Youngstown State University Junior Engineers Summer Camp is open for students ages 9 to 14. The camp, held in the Excellence Training Center on YSU campus, has three sessions: June 13 to 17, July 18 to 22 August 8 to 12.

Students will learn how to operate a robot and use Computer Automated Design [CAD] and industrial design processes to print a 3D object. They will find problems and design solutions to them using CAD software, print out their solutions, test them and return home with a finished 3D printed object.

Students will also learn about cobots [collaborative robots] and robots, what they do and the differences between them. They will gain an understanding of how to connect the robot to computers, and upload computer code to the robot.

Students will visit OH WOW! Museum on the last day of camp and be presented with certificates of completion. Parents/guardians are invited to join for the certificate ceremony.

The camp runs Monday through Friday each session from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with extended hours available. The cost is $155 per child and a $10 discount is available for multiple registrations within one family. Students/families in need of financial aid can email [email protected] for assistance or call 330-941-2358.
