Shenango Chamber Starts Scavenger Hunt Fundraiser

SHARON, Pa. – The Shenango Valley Chamber of Commerce is hosting its first fundraiser for its new charitable foundation: a community scavenger that highlights businesses throughout western Pennsylvania.

Funds raised by the scavenger will support Leadership Shenango and the grants it awards to local projects, nonprofits and entrepreneurs, as well as Shenango Valley Mask & Treat, a drive-thru candy and protective equipment giveaway.

“I am so excited to help bring this scavenger hunt to the Shenango Valley,” said Alicia D. Seitz, a senior associate with HBK CPAs & Consultants’ office in Hermitage and a participant in the Leadership Shenango program, in a statement. “We have a lot of really great restaurants, shops, nonprofits and historical sites throughout the valley and I think this is the perfect opportunity to involve the community and bring awareness for all the great things right here in front of our eyes.”

For $25, a team of up to four people can purchase a #TeamShenangoValley community scavenger hunt card. The card comes with instructions and a list of tasks – from buying lunch at a locally owned restaurant to donating books Little Free Libraries to writing positive reviews for local businesses.

Once a task is completed by an individual – or a team, as some tasks require – it can be checked off the list. Completed cards can be returned to the Shenango Valley Chamber of Commerce, signed with the team name and the date of completion.

At the end of the community scavenger hunt, which runs through Dec. 18, a raffle will be held. Two teams who complete 25 tasks will be drawn to win a $25 gift card.

Teams that buy four cards and complete all tasks will will be entered into a grand prize drawing, with each member of the winning team taking home $100 in gift cards, plus an additional $25 gift card to be given away in their name on the Shenango Valley Retail and Shenango Valley Takeout Facebook pages.

Participants can sign up on the Facebook event page HERE or at the Shenango Valley Chamber office during office hours of 9-4 PM Monday-Thursday. The first five teams that sign up will get a special swag bag for each team member.

“We’re so proud of this community project and our Leadership Shenango Fall 2020 class who helped create this special community hunt,” said Sherris Moreira, executive director of the chamber, which oversees the Leadership Shenango program. “This is a great kickoff to raising money for our Shenango Valley Chamber Charitable Fund, which was created this summer in an effort to better meet the needs of the Shenango Valley Community and to expand the chamber’s own approach to problem-solving in the region.”

The Shenango Valley Charitable Fund will be among the foundations profiled in the November issue of The Business Journal.
