Shepherd of the Valley to Open Community in Liberty
NILES – Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Retirement Services broke ground on a $31 million community on Tibbetts-Wick Road in Liberty in 2019. When it opens in May, it will become the new home of the Shepherd community in Niles.
Niles was Shepherd’s original campus and houses skilled nursing, assisted living and independent apartments, says Danielle Procopio, director of marketing, noting Shepherd outgrew the aging building.
The Liberty campus is Shepherd’s largest capital project. It sits on 55 acres, 37 of which will be green space.
The community will house 30 independent apartments, 30 assisted living suites, 30 memory care suites and a 79-bed skilled nursing and rehabilitation unit. It will be Shepherd’s only campus to include memory care.
Meanwhile, seniors who want to remain at home are reaching out to At Home with Shepherd, Procopio says. Admissions grew by 8% in 2019.
Maintaining its workforce is a concern for Shepherd, which added a recruiter in 2019. Shepherd provides continuing education opportunities for nurses and is a training center for students entering health-care professions.
