Small-Business Owner? Focus on the Results | Gloves Off Ownership Series
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — Josh Langenheim, owner of StoneFruit Coffee and Steel Valley Brewery, gives us a look behind the scenes on what it means to be an entrepreneur.
In this installment of the Gloves Off Ownership Series, Langenheim sits down with Angela Johnson of White Glove Payroll and shares why it’s important to him to stay laser-focused on the task at hand rather than touting his plans ahead of time.
“Don’t talk about your project. Show people the results,” Langenheim says. “We will not tell you what’s coming next. We do that because I have a clear path of where I want these projects to go, and I’m just simply not interested in anyone’s opinion on that, because I have to maintain that laser focus on what we’re doing to be able to bring it to the table appropriately.”
Getting people to follow a business owner on his or her goal is to be “1,000% dedicated and believe in what you are doing,” he says. That philosophy has helped StoneFruit expand from a small cafe in Canfield to five locations in the Mahoning Valley and Cleveland.
“There’s no one to help you walk down a road that’s never been paved before,” Langenheim says. “And sometimes it gets really choppy. You have to be able to pivot immediately. You’ve got to be ready to deal with problems that you never saw coming.”
