SOD Center Opens Applications for Skills Training Scholarships

SALEM, Ohio – Alumni of Salem High School seeking career training are eligible for scholarships through the Sustainable Opportunity Development Center.

Applications for the Dean Hansell Scholarship Fund will provide scholarships to unemployed or at-risk workers attending accredited vocational, trade or technical schools, as well as certificate or credential programs.

Eligible fields of study include, but aren’t limited to, advanced manufacturing, automotive technology, computer technology, culinary arts, health care, machining and plumbing.

“We are honored to partner with Judge Hansell and the Salems High School Alumni Association to provide these funds to Salem Alumni seeking new or additional education in a trade or vocation,” said SOD Center Executive Director Julie Needs in a statement. “With the loss of jobs due to the pandemic, many individuals may be exploring opportunities to enter new careers or advance their skills.  The goal of this scholarship is to help those individuals.”

Recipients must wish to stay in the Salem area and demonstrate a financial need. A selection committee chosen by the SOD Center will determine recipients.

Applications are available here. The application deadline for scholarships for the fall semester is June 30, with the spring semester application deadline on Nov. 1.
