State, Regional Job Openings Show Decline
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Online job openings for the month-long period that ended July 13 were down from the previous reporting period across Ohio as well as in the 18-county region that includes Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties, OhioMeansJobs reported Friday.
Statewide, a total of 335,500 job openings were posted online from June 14 to July 13, a decrease of 6,715 ads from the month before, but up 71,132 from the comparable period in 2021.
In the 18-county northeastern Ohio region, a total of 111,047 openings were posted online for the June 14-to-July 13 period, a decrease of 4,450 ads from the previous reporting period and up 19,625 from the same time last year.
Demand was highest both statewide and regionally for registered nurses, with 15,880 ads statewide and 6,610 in the 18-county region. Heavy and tractor-trailer truck drivers were the second-most in-demand positions, based on ads statewide and regionally, with 14,607 job postings across Ohio and 5,380 in the 18-county region.
Statewide, 40.8% of degrees required a high school diploma or GED certificate, with 39.6% requiring a master’s degree, 14.5% needing an associate degree, and 2.6% requiring either a master’s degree or a doctorate.
Regionally, 45.1% of positions posted required a high school diploma or GED certificate, with 35% calling for a bachelor’s degree. Another 14.9% called for an associate degree, and 2.5% required either a master’s degree or a doctorate.
A plurality of positions statewide – 26.6% – offer pay in the upper middle income range, between $50,000 and $79,000 annually, and 25.9% paid in the middle income range, between $30,000 and $49,000. Jobs paying $100,000 or more represented 20.8% of statewide postings and entry-level jobs paying less than $30,000 represented 15.1% of postings. High-income jobs paying between $80,000 and $99,000 accounted for 11.6% of openings advertised.
In the 18-county region, middle-income jobs represented 28.8% of ads and upper-middle income jobs 27.5%. Entry-level jobs accounted for 17.1% of postings, six-figure jobs 16.1% and high-income jobs 10.6%.
