Steward Medical Group Invests in Robotics, Sites

WARREN, Ohio — The trio of local hospitals operated by Steward Medical Group saw growth in key areas and enter 2020 ready to continue their commitment to quality care, innovative services and community engagement, officials say.

Sharon Regional Medical Center in Sharon, Pa., was accredited through the American College of Surgeons to perform weight-loss surgery and became the first local hospital to adopt HeartFlow Analysis, a noninvasive technology to aid physicians in diagnosing coronary artery disease.

Steward opened a specialty care site in New Castle, Pa., offering rotating specialists including those in orthopedics, vascular surgery, women’s health and cardiology and expanded specialist coverage at Mercer Family Medicine Center to include general surgery and orthopedics.

In Warren and Howland, Steward operates Trumbull Regional Medical Center and Hillside Rehabilitation Hospital, respectively.

Trumbull Regional saw the addition of Mako surgical robots to aid in total hip and knee replacement procedures, becoming the only site in Trumbull County to offer the technology. The hospital’s open-heart program grew 30% last year.

In September, the health-care system opened the Family Medicine Center to expand primary care service in Trumbull County.

At Hillside, cosmetic upgrades were made to patient care areas, the cafeteria and lobby – work totaled $1.2 million – while the vocational rehabilitation program was expanded. The hospital achieved a 98% patient satisfaction score and 10 nurses earned their certified rehabilitation registered nurse designations.

Renovations were completed at Steward Health Center in Austintown, which houses an urgent-care center. And Austintown Rehabilitation Services relocated into a larger space at 1450 S. Canfield-Niles Road.

Steward now offers online scheduling for primary care appointments, says Lisa DiMuccio-Zgela, director of marketing and community relations for Sharon Regional. “Patients can now book appointments with Steward’s primary care physicians at the click of a button,” she says. “To provide specialty services in more communities, our physicians have multiple office locations.”

Steward’s Health/Work Med program partnered with some 2,600 local employers to offer pre-employment testing, on-site care and injury care.

Locally, Steward Medical Group employs 500.
