Surgical Hospital at Southwoods Among Nation’s Best

BOARDMAN, Ohio — The Surgical Hospital at Southwoods was recognized as one of the best in the nation for patient experience by Press Ganey, earning the organization’s 2018 Pinnacle of Excellence and 2018 Guardian of Excellence awards.

The acute care hospital is part of Southwoods Health and is the only hospital in Ohio as well as one in 11 nationally to receive both awards.

“These awards are an endorsement of the hard work and dedication our staff provides every day to ensure a positive patient experience,” said Ed Muransky, CEO at Southwoods. “We’ve earned this national recognition by going above and beyond to perfect that experience for our patients.”

The Pinnacle of Excellence Award recognizes top-performing health-care organizations based on extraordinary achievement, according to a release by Southwoods. The hospital earned the award for maintaining “high levels of excellence” in patient experience for at least three years.

Since 2013, Southwoods has annually received the Guardian of Excellence Award, which recognizes hospitals with sustained performance in the top 5% for overall patient experience throughout the year.

Press Ganey collects feedback from patients to determine the award winners. The firm works with 33,000 health-care organizations to reduce patient suffering and enhance caregiver resilience to improve overall safety, quality and experience of care, according to the release. It announced the award winners at its annual conference on Nov. 12.

“We are pleased to partner with The Surgical Hospital at Southwoods to support their mission to provide safe, high-quality, patient-centered care,” said Patrick T. Ryan, CEO of Press Ganey. “They are dedicated to delivering exceptional care to the communities they serve and their commitment to capturing and acting on patient experience feedback is a very powerful demonstration of this.”
