TCTC Students Earn Award for Safe Driving Campaign

WARREN, Ohio – An instructor of interactive multimedia and students at Trumbull Career & Technical Center have won first place for their participation in the Ohio “Just Drive” contest.

Impact Teen Drivers, a national nonprofit organization, hosted the contest sponsored by NJM Insurance Group. The winners were announced on May 26 through virtual showcases in celebration of Global Youth Traffic Safety Month.

TCTC will be awarded $10,000 in educational grant money for its social media campaign, where students were required to produce 30-second public service announcement videos featuring mascot, “JD.” The goals of the videos were to promote safe driving on each of the social media platforms.

Additional print graphics were posted throughout the school, along with the hosting of a “Just Drive” interactive event.

Students also submitted individual entry scholarship videos.

Lexis Bell was recipient of a $2,500 scholarship for her “Drive Distractionless” video. The second place award winner used sketches in her submission to illustrate examples of good habits and how to avoid distractions.

“Our students worked so hard to collectively develop a campaign that encourages their peers to create safer driving habits,” says TCTC program instructor, Kristofer Doran. “These students are truly deserving of this award for the level of thought they put into their campaign.”
