TNP Promotes Healthy Eating with Mural at Girard Store
GIRARD, Ohio – A Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership mural has been installed at Save-A-Step Food Mart to promote healthy eating and living.
The mural at the store at 230 N. State St. was designed by local artist and art teacher Emma Smith. The design for the mural, Smith’s first, was turned into a 40-foot-by-8-foot banner and installed by Printers Edge.
TNP’s Healthy Community Store program has been working to address food access challenges in Trumbull County since 2019 by providing assistance to community stores to carry fresh fruits and vegetables.
The program is funded by the Healthy Community Partnership, a collaboration of local organizations focused on healthy initiatives. Save-A-Step Food Mart has been part of the program since 2022.
This is TNP’s third mural to be installed at community stores as an effort to promote healthy eating and the produce available at the stores.
“Murals are a great way to attract the community’s attention toward something artistic and healthy, and beautify the community in the process,” said Lydia Walls, TNP’s healthy eating and active living coordinator.
