ODNR Issues 2 Permits for Utica Shale Drilling
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Ohio Department of Natural Resources issued two permits for drilling in the Utica-Point Pleasant shale during the week ended Dec. 28.
Both were awarded to Eclipse Resources I LLP for wells in Monroe County’s Green Township.
There were no permit applications for wells in Mahoning, Trumbull or Columbiana counties. Nor were any applications filed with the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection for wells in Mercer or Lawrence counties.
In the last full week of 2019, Ohio had 2,422 producing wells, according to ODNR, with 2,706 wells drilled.
In its third-quarter production report, ODNR reported that 673 billion cubic feet of natural gas and 7.2 million barrels of oil had been drawn from wells in the state. Columbiana County was the largest producer locally with 10.34 billion cubic feet of natural gas. Mahoning County produced 336.01 million cubic feet and Trumbull County 119.17 million cubic feet.
