United Way Launches ‘Super Saturday’ with Tax Assistance Events

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley will host its first Super Saturday event Feb. 2, providing free tax assistance and financial stability education programs.

At Youngstown State University’s Williamson Hall and the Sebring Public Library, those with low-to-moderate income and seniors can take advantage of services provided by the IRS’ Volunteer Income Tax Assistance, or VITA, and Tax Counseling for Seniors programs. The program at YSU will be held 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., while at Sebring it runs 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Both sites require appointments. The event at YSU will have limited slots available for walk-in appointments.

Also at YSU, the Mahoning County Financial Stability Partnership will host its Financial Fair 9 a.m. to noon. More than 10 program partners will be at the fair, offering education and support to all in attendance. Short seminars will also be held for those waiting for tax assistance.

The VITA program is free for those filing 1040EX, 1040A or basic 1040 forms for federal tax returns. Volunteers will also alert taxpayers to credits and deductions they may be eligible for. Participants in Super Saturday should bring W-2 and 1099 forms, as well as their 2018 returns if available. Those with complex returns may be directed to see an accountant.
