Ursuline High School to Host MLK Tribute Basketball Tournament
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Ursuline High School is hosting a Martin Luther King Jr. tribute basketball tournament on Sunday and Monday at the high school’s gymnasium.
Youngstown Mayor Jamael Tito Brown; YMCA of Youngstown Sports and Recreation Director D’Aundray Brown; Youngstown Police Department Community Liaison Malik Mostella; Ursuline High School students Tiara Carter and Marina Sepulveda; and Executive Director of the Community Initiative to Reduce Violence for the City of Youngstown Guy Burney will speak before the five scheduled games.
Each speaker will address the teams and crowd regarding their interpretation of the “I Have A Dream” speech from 1963, and how we can continue King’s work today.
Sunday’s boys basketball games
Louisville St. Thomas Aquinas vs. Warren John F. Kennedy, 3 p.m.;
Ursuline vs. Academy of Urban Scholars, 5 p.m.;
Monday’s games
Losing teams from Sunday, 2 p.m.
Ursuline girls vs. Chaney girls, 4 p.m
Winning teams from Sunday, 6 p.m.
In addition, participating schools will be provided commemorative shirts, an all-tournament team will be selected, and the winning team will receive a championship plaque.
