Valley Group to Honor Tree of Life Victims

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – A group from the Mahoning Valley will visit Pittsburgh Saturday to remember the victims of the Tree of Life Synagogue shooting in October.

A bus will leave the Jewish Community Center of Youngstown at 7:45 a.m. and arrive at Pittsburgh’s Rodef Shalom Congregation, where the Tree of Life congregation is temporarily holding Shabbat services, for the 9:45 a.m. services.

A Kiddush luncheon, sponsored by Congregation Rodef Sholom of Youngstown, will follow. The bus will return to Youngstown at about 2:30 p.m.

“This trip shows solidarity with fellow Jews in Pittsburgh,” says Andrew Lipkin, Youngstown Area Jewish Federation executive vice-president. “It also provides some closure to what has been a painful time for many Jewish people.”

The federation is partially funding the oneg – the celebration in honor of the Sabbath – following the service.
