Hudson Fasteners, America Makes to Host Manufacturing Day

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – America Makes and Hudson Fasteners are joining forces to  host Manufacturing Day Oct. 7. The event will be highlighted by a presentation by former Youngstown Mayor Jay Williams, now U.S. assistant secretary of commerce for economic development .

On the schedule is a networking breakfast and proclamation from Mayor John McNally, a presentation by the Manufacturing Advocacy & Growth Network, a display of the Youngstown-Warren Regional Chamber’s 3-D printed bobbleheads of the presidential candidates and a tour of America Makes.

“One of the main goals of Manufacturing Day has always been to get young people motivated to learn more about modern manufacturing,” said Cris Young, vice president of Hudson Fasteners. “As we open our doors to student groups, local media, and legislators, we are educating the public about the evolution of manufacturing technology.

The events for Manufacturing Day are free, although registration is required. A full schedule is available here.

There are nearly 1,200 manufacturers in the Mahoning Valley, Young said, and the industry accounts for 14% of jobs in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties in Ohio and Mercer and Lawrence counties in Pennsylvania.

Manufacturing Day, a nationwide event held the first Friday in October every year, is organized by the National Association of Manufacturers, the Fabricators & Manufacturers Association International, the Manufacturing Institute, the National Institute of Standards and Technology and the Hollings Manufacturing Extension Partnership.
