Vallourec Wins Ohio EPA Stewardship Award
GIRARD, Ohio – Vallourec Star is among the recipients of the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency’s Encouraging Environmental Excellence award.
The company earned the Gold Award for reducing energy usage at its electric arc furnace, purchasing 86% of its power from zero-carbon emission sources, recycling 45,000 gallons of wastewater annually and reducing water consumption approximately 160 gallons per product ton.
“Through recycling efforts, waste-reduction processes, renewable energy programs and sustainability programs, these companies are making a major impact in their communities,” said Ohio EPA director Laurie Stevenson said in the announcement. “I am very pleased to honor these organizations with the Encouraging Environmental Excellence award.”
The Gold Award is given to businesses and organizations that have a comprehensive environmental stewardship program, exceed regulatory compliance requirements and complete programs that reduce waste and improve environmental performance.

In the Platinum Award category, for organizations that expand environmental programs beyond their own facilities, are Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden, Denison University, Marathon Petroleum Co. Findlay Campus and Cleveland Metroparks.
Receiving the Silver Award for achievements in environmental stewardship are Charter Steel-Fostoria, OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital, Bendix, Cooper Farms, CSA Group, NASA Glenn Research Center and Allen Oakwood Correctional Institute.
