Veterans Day Offerings Across the Valley
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – To celebrate men and women who served in the armed forces, many area businesses are offering specials on Veterans Day.
Nationwide, there are some 17.4 million veterans. Locally, the U.S. Census Bureau reports 16,319 veterans in Mahoning County, 19,920 in Trumbull County and 8,507 in Columbiana County.
Below is a list of businesses and their offers on Nov. 11.
AmVets Post #44/FirstEnergy Corp. – Hosting a food giveaway for veterans Nov. 14. at AmVets Post #44, 305 Elm St. in Struthers. The giveaway begins at 10 a.m. Contact Mary Bundy at [email protected] for mor information.
Applebee’s – Free meals for veterans and active duty military.
BJ’s Restaurant & Brew House – A free entree up to $14.95 and a free Dr. Pepper. Dine in only. Valid military ID required.
Buffalo Wild Wings – Free order of 10 boneless wings and fries for veterans and active duty military.
Chili’s – Free entree for veterans and activity duty military.
Coates Car Care – Free exterior car wash for veterans and active duty military at the Howland, Cortland, Austintown and Hermitage, Pa., locations. Due to required maintenance, the Niles-MicKinley Heights site will be closed all week; customers are encouraged to visit other Coates locations.
Cracker Barrel – Free slice of double chocolate fudge Coca-Cola cake. Throughout November, the chain is also donating a $10 Cracker Barrel gift card to Operation Homefront for each family meal basket sold.
Firebirds – When dining with a veteran or active duty service member, their lunch or dinner entree will be free.
Golden Corral – Throughout November, the restaurant is giving free meal and beverage cards to veterans and active duty military.
Home Depot – 10% off regularly priced items for in-store purchases when a valid military ID is shown at checkout.
Hollywood Gaming at Mahoning Valley Race Course – Free brisket sandwich or classic burger at Take 2 Grill with valid military ID. Half racks of barbecue ribs are also available for $5.50. Specials are available from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
In addition, the racino will also be selling “Tribute to the American Veteran” CDs, with all proceed donated to Veterans’ Outreach, a nonprofit providing support to veterans in Mahoning and Trumbull counties.
Little Caesars – A free Hot ‘n’ Ready pizza between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. for veterans and active duty service members.
Mercy Health – Mercy Health-Youngstown will honor veterans at its sites across the Valley. At 11 a.m., the health-care system will honor veterans at the American flag outside St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital, followed by similar events at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital’s Park Avenue entrance at 1 p.m. and St. Joseph Warren Hospital’s flag pole at 1 p.m.
Mission BBQ – Free sandwiches for veterans and active duty service members.
National Shrine of Our Lady of Lebanon – Offering memorials and “thank yous” for veterans at the North Jackson shrine and basilica. For $5, a white carnation will be placed at the altar, while higher levels include honors posted on the shrine’s Facebook page ($10) and a certificate mailed to the family ($25). Tickets can be purchased HERE.
Primanti Bros. – All Ohio sites are offering free Almost Famous sandwiches for active duty service members and veterans. For those ordering online, use the code “THANKSVETS” at checkout.
Sheetz – Veterans and active duty military can get a free turkey sub and regular size fountain drink at all Sheetz locations, as well as a free car wash. A valid military ID is required.
Texas Roadhouse – A free lunch voucher for all veterans and active duty military. Vouchers will be distributed from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the parking lot. Please have your military ID or proof of service ready when driving through to pick up the voucher.
Youngstown Area Jewish Federation – Veterans living at the senior housing complexes operatedby the Youngstown Area Jewish Federation will be honored in a virtual ceremony on Veterans Day.
Each veteran at Heritage Manor Rehabilitation & Retirement Community, Levy Gardens Assisted Living and Heritage Manor Adult Day Services will receive a certificate and pin. The ceremony, which starts at 2p.m., can be watched on the Zoom link that will be posted at HeritageManor.org.
