Walk Wednesdays to Offer Step in a Healthy Direction

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Mercy Health’s Stepping Out program, the Healthy Community Partnership and Dalton Campana, Youngstown State University community recreation graduate assistant with the Healthy Community Partnership, are encouraging residents to participate in a healthy, outdoor group activity.

Walk Wednesdays will take place from noon to 12:30 p.m. every Wednesday, weather permitting, starting May 8 and will continue until the weather becomes too cold to walk. The walking group will meet outside Mocha House downtown and then walk to Wean Park.

The city of Youngstown’s YO! App will provide promo codes to walkers every month, which can be redeemed at more than 20 businesses in the city.

Walk Wednesdays and several other free outdoor walking classes are part of the Healthy Community Partnership’s Walk the Valley initiative in partnership with Mercy Health’s Stepping Out program.

“Regular participation in outdoor walking activities will improve residents’ physical and

mental health,” a news release states. “Organized walks also connect walkers to their friends and neighbors through a shared activity, which helps to create a sense of community and belonging. Walks like this are also ways to promote and use local park facilities that are often underused in local communities.”
