Weather Disrupts Tournaments for Ohio High School Teams

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Rain around Ohio wreaked havoc on the Ohio High School Athletic Association state tournaments, starting with softball at Firestone Stadium in Akron.

The Division I game between Whitehouse Anthony Wayne and Pataskala Watkins Memorial was halted Thursday morning because of the weather. It will resume at 10 a.m. Friday.

The Johnstown-South Range game originally scheduled for Friday has been pushed back to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.

All state championship games have been moved to Sunday. The complete list of state softball games can be found HERE.

Regional baseball games were pushed to Friday as well with the Division II, Regional 5 semifinal between Salem and Canfield moved to 2 p.m. at Canton GlenOak High School.

The Division III, Region 9 semifinal between South Range and Gilmour Academy at Massillon Washington High School is at 5 p.m. Friday.

The Division IV, Region 13 semifinals between John F. Kennedy and Columbia Station Columbia (1:30 p.m.) and Tiffin Calvert and Mathews (4:30 p.m.) have been moved to Friday.

Mother Nature did not impact Friday’s and Saturday’s scheduled state track and field tournaments at three Columbus-area high schools – Hillard Darby (Division I), Pickerington North (Division II) and Westerville North (Division III). Ohio State University’s Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium, which has hosted the meet since 2004, was not available for this year’s state meet.
