WIE Gets Funds from Community Foundation

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Fund for Women and Girls will award $14,321 to the Youngstown Business Incubator’s Women in Entrepreneurship program at a reception from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. July 20 at the Harriet Taylor Upton House, 380 Mahoning Ave.

The Fund for Women and Girls is a component fund of the Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley. Established in 2002, the fund “serves to expand women’s philanthropy while bringing attention and funding to a segment of the population that has traditionally been underserved.”

“We are excited to see this partnership between the Community Foundation and the YBI come to fruition in the form of this grant award,” said Shari Harrell, president of the Community Foundation. “Both staffs worked diligently over the last seven months to raise both fund and awareness, and their efforts have paid off.”

The Women in Entrepreneurship program provides mentoring, networking and entrepreneurial education for women in the Mahoning Valley. The group meets monthly and works with several organizations in the area, such as Inspiring Minds.

“The WE program is honored to be in partnership with the Community Foundation and this great movement to empower women and girls within our community,” said director Stephanie Gilchrist. “This fund is not only a testament to what women can do in the spirit of unity but it will benefit so many of the aspiring and current women entrepreneurs in our valley that come to our organizations for resources.”
