“Don’t you believe that hiring the best man, woman or transgender person, regardless of color, would satisfy?” asks Arnold.

Coviello says the challenge is creating a system where the pool of talent of available talent is equitable.

“We need to hire the best people for our organizations. That pool is what probably needs to be more equitable.”

Ewing says having a diverse workforce is important for every business.

“Is that best person necessarily the best person for the organization?” she asks. “Or is having a diverse workforce that can see the world slightly different better for the organization?”
