Youngstown Clothing Co. Opens at Southern Park
BOARDMAN – Youngstown Clothing Co. is expanding the operation of its store in the Southern Park Mall to year-round as it looks to potentially open another retail location. At the same time, the company is seeking new partnerships to market its garments that draw on local pride and legacy.
For the third consecutive year, YCC achieved 100% year-over-year revenue growth, according to co-founder Mike McClure. Since the company was established in 2015 by McClure and his brother, Matt, the staff has grown to eight, including five hired in 2019, he says.
The Youngstown Clothing Co. creates shirts and other apparel that honor the Mahoning Valley’s past and the people who made it great.
“Our high quality, vintage-inspired apparel allows people from the Mahoning Valley to show their hometown pride,” McClure says.
The company takes pride in selling garments produced only in America and printed in Youngstown, he adds.
One of its goals this year is to maintain the Southern Park Mall store’s year-round presence; and the founders are excited about being a part of the mall’s rebranding and renovation.
In 2018, the Youngstown Clothing Co. established the “Yonation Jar” to give back to the community, McClure says. The Yonation Jar enables the company to team up with area businesses to raise money for local charities and those in need.
In 2019, more than $23,000 was donated through the Yonation Jar, compared to about $5,000 in 2018 McClure says.
As a result, the company was able to give a $15,000 check to the Mahoning Valley Agricultural Society, which operates the Canfield Fair.
Other charities benefiting from the Yonation Jar include the Freedom Warrior Fund, Second Harvest Food Bank, United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley and Rescue Mission of Mahoning Valley.
