Youngstown Marathon Names Race Beneficiaries
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Youngstown Marathon Foundation board has named Youngstown CityScape and the United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley as beneficiaries of this year’s event.
The board voted last month to select the two nonprofits, said Courtney Poullas, CEO and race director.
The second running of the marathon, half-marathon and 5k will take place June 3, beginning and ending near Second Sole on Market Street in Boardman.
“The choices were tough because there are so many amazing community organizations in Youngstown,” said Poullas. “In the end, the board chose the two charities that we feel best embody the Youngstown Marathon mission to spread health, wellness and community throughout the Valley.”
A third recipient, based on votes from the public, will be named later, she added.
“We are extremely honored and grateful to be chosen as one of the beneficiaries of the Youngstown Marathon,” said Bob Hannon, president of the United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley.
Youngstown CityScape will use the funds to support the Wick Park running trail improvement project, said Sharon Letson, executive director.
Race sponsors are Chemical Bank, Mercy Health Youngstown, and Second Sole. More information on the race and additional sponsorship opportunities is available at this website.
