Youngstown Marathon Plans New Course

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Youngstown Marathon Foundation announces a new full marathon course for the 2018 race. The course travels further into the City of Youngstown where runners will make their way around Federal Street and Youngstown State University.

“Our runners desired more Youngstown in their course, and thanks to our team and the support of the city, we made that happen for 2018,” said Courtney Poullas, CEO and race director.

The Foundation plans to certify the new course as a Boston Marathon qualifying race for 2019.

All distances for the Youngstown Marathon races share a common start and finish line. The full marathon provides views of Mill Creek Park along with downtown Youngstown.

“The new course is much more runner friendly. The 2018 marathon course is the way that Youngstown was meant to be run,” said Mark Lipinsky, Youngstown Marathon chief operating officer and course logistics director.

The additional mileage through Youngstown eliminates some of the tougher hills in Mill Creek Park. Runners will loop Lake Newport twice and have just one hill to trek after crossing the half marathon point.

The half marathon and 5k courses remain the same as they were in 2017.
