YSU to Host Dance Festival Oct. 2

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The 11th annual Youngstown State University Dance Festival will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 2 in Beeghly Center.

This year’s classes include improvisation, hip hop, lyrical contemporary, yoga for dancers, beginning/ intermediate and intermediate/ advanced modern, ballet and tap, and musical theater. Tickets are $40 per person.

As part of the festival, YSU dance majors will offer classes in tap, musical theater, hip hop and contemporary/ modern for those between the ages of 9 and 12. Each class is $7 or $25 for all four.

Guests for the festival include several renowned choreographers, including Susan Gillis, former director, choreographer and dancer for Pittsburgh Dance Alloy and current dance and yoga teacher at the University of Pittsburgh; Anthony Alterio, a faculty member at the University of Kentucky; Eri Raib Ptichkin, a YSU graduate and part time tap dancing teacher at YSU; and Angelo Lemmo, the Canton Ballet’s resident choreographer.

The deadline to register is Sept. 26. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. in Beeghly Center’s front lobby. Parking is available in the M70 lot on Fifth Avenue for $5.
