YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Michael Iberis, executive director of Second Harvest Food Bank for more than 20 years, was nominated by three of his co-workers.

“He leads by decisiveness and confidence. … He is the voice for our hungry friends and neighbors,” says Penny Carsone.

“What sets him apart is he is very mindful that the employees and volunteers are the keys to this success,” says Barbara Presby. “Mike keeps a firm handle on the day-to-day business activities yet allows his managers to make decisions and run their department as they see fit.”

Adds Julia Varner, “He demonstrates a balance of compassion and pragmatism in his approach to issues and concerns of food insecurity. He has made each employee and volunteer feel valued.”
