YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Expanding its presence in Trumbull County in 2022, Action accelerated its multi-pronged efforts to improve the lives of those in impoverished communities.
Efforts are in motion for a second Mobile Market to serve Trumbull residents. This follows the success of the Mahoning Valley Mobile Market, which launched in May through a partnership with Flying High Inc. and many generous funders. Buoyed by the dedicated involvement of people like Eileen Garcia, the Mobile Market is an effort to address food insecurity in Mahoning County.
Action – the Alliance for Congregational Transformation Influencing Our Neighborhoods – found a permanent home on the North Side of Youngstown with an office on Gypsy Lane. Dress to Succeed, one of Action’s programs, will share the office.
Additionally, Action has procured a satellite office in Trumbull County and is working with new organizations and leaders to build core teams, hold listening campaigns and conduct integrated voter engagement.
“Our outlook is extremely high as we are setting standards to rewrite the story of impoverished neighborhoods and racially charged political agendas, understanding that changing the framework can often change the response,” says Rose Carter, executive director of Action.
Also last year, Action added Pastor Jeff Stanford, an expansion organizer, whose position was funded by a grant. Through his leadership, Action expanded its presence with five new congregations in Trumbull County.
In November Action hosted a two-day workshop at the Universalist Unitarian Church, where 25 local leaders explored ways to end racism and create human solidarity.
Action is a faith-based, grassroots organization guided by shared values and multicultural collaboration. The organization strives to develop a community of diverse leaders committed to raising awareness and to seeking solutions to overcome poverty, racism and social injustice.
