LIBERTY – After a minor kitchen fire forced Kravitz Delicatessen to close for six weeks, the landmark restaurant in Liberty Township is open again with some new features.
As repairs were being made, owner Matthew Rydarowicz used the opportunity to improve the dishwashing area, do some heavy cleaning and repaint and reorganize the front room.
A new grill and hood were installed to replace the fire-damaged ones.
Rydarowicz also installed a deep fryer and has added french fries to the menu – a first for the 84-year-old business.
Two of the deli’s biggest annual events are nearing. Fat Tuesday Paczki Day on Feb. 21, a pre-Lent celebration, will feature overstuffed Polish jelly doughnuts. The St. Patrick’s Day corned beef celebration will feature events and food specials March 10-17.
The deli’s contract to operate the Garden Café at Fellows Riverside Gardens visitors center was recently extended. Rydarowicz anticipates increased traffic there, and also for his catering arm, Inspired Catering by Kravitz.
The deli has also implemented the Kravitz Kares program, which facilitates fundraising efforts by nonprofit organizations.
